CertRom description
CertRom is a third party certification body accredited by RENAR according to SR EN ISO/IEC 17065:2013, accreditation certificate no. OR 012 and recognized by INTERNATIONAL SUSTAINABILITY & CARBON CERTIFICATION (ISCC) with no. RO 210 for the certification of compliance with sustainability criteria according to ISCC EU, ISCC PLUS and ISCC CORSIA certification schemes.
International Sustainability and Carbon Certification (ISCC) description
ISCC – International Sustainability and Carbon Certification – is an independent multi-stakeholder organisation that provides a globally applicable certification scheme for the sustainability of raw materials and products. ISCC is a multi-commodity system. The ISCC certification scheme applies to the entire supply chain and to different sectors and markets: bioenergy (biofuels and bioliquids), food, feed and chemical/technical markets.
ISCC is the organisation responsible for the development, surveillance, review and continuous improvement of ISCC certification schemes.
ISCC operates the following certification systems: ISCC EU, ISCC PLUS and ISCC CORSIA. Verification of compliance with ISCC requirements and issuance of ISCC certificates are carried out by ISCC recognised third party certification bodies.
The EU ISCC can be used to demonstrate compliance with the legal requirements of the EU Renewable Energy Directive 2009/28/EC as amended by Directive (EU) 2015/1513 (RED) and the Fuel Quality Directive 2009/30/EC as amended by Directive (EU) 2015/1513 (FQD).
The ISCC PLUS is a certification scheme for all markets and sectors not regulated by CORSIA and RED and can be used to demonstrate sustainability in food or feed markets, chemical or technical applications and bioenergy markets.
The ISCC CORSIA is a certification scheme for sustainable aviation fuels that demonstrates compliance with the Carbon Offsetting and Reduction Scheme for International Aviation. CORSIA was developed by the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) and requires the aviation industry to offset greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions from 2021.
ISCC Certification Schemes
ISCC EU
Recognition and accreditation:
- Recognised by the European Commission (EC) for demonstrating compliance with the legal requirements of the RED and FQD directives.
- Surveillance by the German Federal Office for Agriculture and Food (BLE)
- Surveillance and accreditation by ANSI
Purpose: EU biofuel markets
Acceptance of other certification schemes:
- Acceptance of all national and voluntary schemes recognised by the EC
- For waste and residues, schemes are accepted only after a positive comparative analysis. So far, only the RedCert EU, RSB and 2BSvs schemes have had a positive result.
Materials: all types of agricultural and forestry raw materials, waste and residues, biogas and algae
Application of GHG emission requirements: mandatory for all elements of the supply chain
Mutual acceptance of ISCC EU and ISCC PLUS: Deliveries exclusively from ISCC PLUS certified companies are not accepted
Applicable claims: “ISCC Compliant” (ISCC Compliant) and “RED Compliant” (EU RED Compliant)
ISCC PLUS
Recognition and accreditation:
ISCC PLUS is a voluntary certification standard for unregulated markets
Surveillance and accreditation by ANSI
Purpose: Markets for non-EU biofuels, bioenergy, chemicals, food, feed and technical applications.
Acceptance of other certification schemes: ISCC only: the entire upstream supply chain must be ISCC certified
Materials: all types of agricultural and forestry raw materials, waste and residues, non-bio renewables, plastics, recycled carbon materials and fuels
Application of GHG emissions requirements: voluntary coverage (add-on “GHG Emissions”)
Mutual acceptance of ISCC EU and ISCC PLUS: Deliveries from ISCC EU certified companies are accepted (if the material is “ISCC Compliant”)
Applicable claims: “ISCC Compliant”. If applicable, claims for voluntary add-on used
ISCC CORSIA
Recognition and accreditation: recognized by ICAO for demonstrating compliance with the Carbon Offsetting and Reduction Scheme for International Aviation (CORSIA, Carbon Offsetting and Reduction Scheme for International Aviation)
Applicability: sustainable aviation fuels demonstrating compliance with the Carbon Reduction and Offset Scheme for International Aviation (CORSIA)
Airline operators can offset GHG emissions by purchasing carbon credits from climate protection projects or by reducing emissions through the use of Sustainable Aviation Fuels (Sustainable Aviation Fuels,SAF). To become eligible, these fuels must be sourced from fuel manufacturers that are certified under an ICAO-approved sustainability certification scheme.
Acceptance of other certification schemes: All voluntary schemes recognised by ICAO are accepted.
Materials: all types of agricultural and forestry raw materials, waste and residues, non-bio renewables, recycled carbon materials and fuels
